The title of the episode’s kind of mean but I love how McDonald’s is a 5-D food.

Sometimes I try to think about what I’d do for a living if I wasn’t a webdev. Or more specifically, if the internet ceased to be and I was completely out of a gig. I get on this train of thought because often I feel like I’ve been at my current career for so long, that I really don’t have any other options. Riding the ferry from Alcatraz today, it occurred to me that I might very much enjoy being a ship’s captain, or something like it.
As I write that, it hits me: on top of how many of you whom I know from waking life are probably reading this and thinking, “Yeah, Jason, you love pirates, this is no big shocker,” I think it might be in the blood. Dad’s got mechanical skills and has loved cars since before I was born, traits he passed on to my brother. Mom discovered later in life her love of sailing, and can chart courses and pilot a small craft for days. Grandpa flew planes in WWII. I’m kind of surprised I haven’t seen this common thread before.

The other day, my mother asked me if I’d heard of “this Twitter thing.” She’s also recently realized that you can Google people. Time to brace myself for the day she puts together all the dots…
Hahahaha, Elea! I just got off the phone with my mom and she asked me about Twitter too! I explained it to her and she said, “Oh, so it’s like a blog, except people can’t get on there and go on and on,” in reference to the 140 character limit.
To that, I should’ve said, “In theory, but that doesn’t stop some people.”
