The Letter People - The Word Machine (via letterpeopleland) (Oop, okay, apparently embedding isn’t allowed on this video, but if you click on it to open it at YouTube, it’ll play there.)

Halsted recently posted clips from The Electric Company, which got me thinking about other programs I saw as a kid. In kindergarten, when my family was in St. Louis, the local PBS station showed a program it had produced a few years before called Letter People Land, which had an associated school curriculum that my school used to teach the alphabet and basic reading concepts. I loved the show and all it’s weirdness, like Runaway Words (created in this segment, apparently) and the strange characterizations of individual letters.

I haven’t seen this show in almost 30 years, and I’ve seen stuff tonight I’ve only barely been able to remember. Amazing.

About

Recurring themes: LGBT issues, San Francisco tidbits, ukuleles, pirates, games, absurdism. I won't really talk about myself here, but you'll get a sense of me, anyway.

A 7au.net/Tumblr joint. Check out a random post, or you can say hi at jaschu at the gmail in the neighborhood of the dotted com. What little original content there is © Copyright 2007-2010 but, cripes, just ask first and I'll probably be cool. Righto!
