What is this, 1999?

CJR: Blogonomics: is there potential for a Bloggers Guild of some sort?

Yeah. Man. Geez, I don’t know. Instead, I’ll trot out the same old chesnut I always trot out whenever I’m feeling like I’ve been in weblogland for way too long, and have seen too much:

Back in maybe late 1999, early 2000, when there was one (count it: one) Yahoo! Groups mailing list for anyone who considered themselves a weblogger, someone (one of the Dans, I think) poised the question, “Hey, do you think we’ll ever make money off of this?” (“This” meaning, weblogging.)

The response was something like, had we all been hanging out in the living room talking, that question would have gotten asked, there’d be a moment of silence as we all pondered it, and then unanimously, we’d all go, “Naaaaaaaaaaah!”

There’s gotta be a word for this kind of saddening, long-memory perspective.

Also I think I got this link from someone else and now I can’t find it, so if it was one of you crazy Tumblrs, I’m sorry.

Recurring themes: LGBT issues, San Francisco tidbits, ukuleles, pirates, games, absurdism. I won't really talk about myself here, but you'll get a sense of me, anyway.

A 7au.net/Tumblr joint. Check out a random post, or you can say hi at jaschu at the gmail in the neighborhood of the dotted com. What little original content there is © Copyright 2007-2010 but, cripes, just ask first and I'll probably be cool. Righto!
