Short-notice wedding: how can you make it nice?

So I have a couple friends coming in from out of town this weekend, and they’ve decided to get married while they’re here, seeing as they’re both guys and they can do that here in California now. I’ve been asked to be a witness to it, which is awesome and of course I said yeah.

Here’s the thing: I’m really the only person they know well in the Bay Area. They have a couple other contacts but not people close to their heart. And they are close to my heart as well; one of them did a lot to build a community within Chicago’s queer community, one that remains one of my homes. I want this to be special, even if it is kind of sudden.

Here’s my question: what can I do to make it special for them? I can’t put a ton together on short notice; I’m talking little touches, such as:

  • Getting flowers for them, either for their lapels or a wedding bouquet.
  • Taking pictures.
  • Getting some bubbles to blow as they come out of City Hall.
I’m not really good at this sort of thing, though, so I need more ideas. Help! If you have any ideas, can you please reblog this with them, or shoot me an email (see the sidebar on my page)? Thanks!
