When I lived in Chicago, I wrote and performed poetry, usually at GLBT-specific venues and shows. I would joke that this piece was working out my “angry young homosexual man” phase, and stuffed it with enough dilettantish vigor and just about every stereotype I could think of without it becoming so completely unwieldy that you could sink Jimmy Hoffa with it.
A few years passed and I began thinking that maybe the GLBT community would no longer need a poem like this. Here’s hoping we still don’t and that our newfound energy from Saturday and the week prior gets channeled appropriately.
